Yum
Baritone
| Resumè
Kyungmook Yum is a graduate of the Juilliard Opera Center in Manhattan.
He received his Bachelor of Music Degree from Seoul University and
received his Artist Diploma from Southern Methodist University.
Possessing a voice of great power and rare beauty, Mr. Yum is perfect
for the great roles written for the Verdi baritone.
His repertoire
includes such roles as Germont in La Traviata,
Valentin in Faust, Marcello in La Boheme,
Papageno in Die Zauberflöte, Figaro in
Le Nozze di Figaro, the title role of Mozart’s
Don Giovanni, and Figaro in Il Barbiere
di Seville.
Mr. Yum has
been the recipient of many awards including First Prize in the
Korean Musician’s Association Competition, National Opera
Association Competition, Palm Beach Opera Competition and he also
received the Third Place Award from the Altamura Enrico Caruso
International Competition.
He was also a finalist in the Metropolitan Opera National Auditions
and received a study grant.
Since 2004,
he has been a member of the New York City Opera, where he has
sung such roles as Schaunard in La Boheme, Masetto
in Don Giovanni, and Yamadori in Madama
Butterfly.
On August 4, 2007, Mr. Yum sang the role of Figaro in Il
Barbiere di Siviglia with the Metro Lyric Opera under
the direction of Anton Coppola.
This past
season at the New York City Opera his roles included El Dancairo
in Carmen, Schaunard in La Boheme,
The Master of Ceremonies in Cendrillon, and Yamadori
in Madama Butterfly, which was telecast on March
20th on PBS.
In January
2008, he sang the role of Michonnet in Adriana Lecouvreur
with Opera in the Heights in Houston. Future engagements include
the role of Germont in La Traviata and the bass
solo in the Beethoven Ninth Symphony at the Seoul
National Arts Center. In June 2008 he sang the role of Amonasro
in Aida with the New Rochelle Opera and in October
2008 he will sing the role of Ping in Turandot
with the Dayton Opera.
