Hailed as
one of the leading exponents of the bel canto and lirico spinto
styles among today's leading tenors, Jorge Antonio has performed
the lirico spinto repertoire to great praise and critical success
throughout opera houses around the world.
At the age
of 22, having just won first prize in the West Palm Beach International
competition, Mr. Pita became the youngest tenor to debut at the
Vienna Staatsoper, singing Pinkerton in Madama Butterfuly.
Following his successful debut, he appeared in the leading tenor
roles in Macbeth, La Traviata, Falstaff,
Rigoletto, Lucia di Lammermoor, and as the Italian
Singer in Der Rosenkavalier.
Mr. Pita's
appearances have taken him to opera houses such as Hamburg, Stuttgart,
Linz, Amsterdam, Toulouse, Kiel, Basel, Nantes, Marseille, Liverpool,
Glasgow, Dublin, Los Angeles, Hong Kong, London, Leeds, Madrid,
Barcelona, Toledo, Paris, Genoa, Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, Tel Aviv,
Moscow, St. Petersburg, Salzburg, Edinburgh, Adelaide, Oslo, Baltimore,
Berlin and Rome among others. His accomplishments also extended
to oratorio and concert performances with some of the world's
leading orchestras and solo recitals.
Mr. Pita has
become a favorite of many leading conductors, including Claudio
Abbado, Zubin Mehta, Giuseppe Sinopoli, Anton Guadagno, Jesus
Lopez Cobos, Nikolas Harnoncourt, and many others.
Maestro Abbado
extended an invitation to Mr. Pita to record the Schubert Mass
in E flat Major and the Mass in G with the Vienna
Philharmonic. Mr. Pita was then invited back after the previous
successes to record live performances of the Beethoven Choral
Fantasy with renowned pianist Maurizio Pollini and the Vienna
Philharmonic for the Deutsche Grammophon label. Other recordings
include the Berlioz Requiem with the Moscow Philharmonic,
Verdi's La Traviata with the Arturo Toscanini Company
of Paris, Donizetti's Poliuto for CBS Masterworks with
Jose Carreras, Katia Riciarelli, Juan Pons an the Vienna Philharmonic.
Born in Havana,
Cuba, Mr. Pita was raised in the United States and began his vocal
studies under the advice and guidance of Placido Domino. He furthered
his studies at Indiana University after receiving a full scholarship
to study under Gabriella Tucci, Jean Deis, Nicola Rossi-Lemeni,
James King and Virginia Zeani. He also studied with Rafaele Cardone
and more recently with Maestro Franco Iglesias.

in Miami and other cities throughout the United States to great
audience and critical acclaim.
