Peter Hakjoon Kim
Baritone | Repertoire

A native of Seoul, Korea, baritone Peter Kim immigrated to the United States at the age of sixteen. After graduating from the Juilliard School with Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Music, he joined the Dicapo Opera Theatre in New York as a member of their Resident Young Artists Program.

Mr. Kim sang his very first opera at the age of seventeen as Figaro in
Il Barbiere di Siviglia when he was a student, and he made his professional operatic debut at eighteen as Goro in the Dicapo Opera Theatre production of Madama Butterfly, starring Patricia Craig.

While attending the Juilliard School, Mr. Kim worked with renowned directors such as Frank Corsaro, Christopher Mattaliano and Edward Berkeley. He performed the role of Guglielmo in Cosi fan tutte, and the title role in Mozart’s Don Giovanni in the school’s opera theater program. He also sang the role of Marco in the Juilliard Opera Center’s production of Gianni Schicchi.

Mr. Kim also sang tenor roles for a number of seasons, before resuming his work as a baritone. These included roles such as Bacchus in Ariadne auf Naxos, Don Jose in Carmen, Alfredo in La Traviata, Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly, and Rodolfo in La Boheme with Regina Opera Company, New York Concert Opera, Opera in the Ozarks and Dicapo Opera.

His current repertory includes art songs of Schubert, Schumann, Brahms, Fauré and Mussorgsky and many of the standard major baritone opera roles. His most recent opera engagements include the Count in the Marriage of Figaro, and Belcore in L’Elisir d’amore. Future performances include the title roles of Don Giovanni at the Teatro Heckscher in New York City, and Rigoletto with Opera in the Heights in Houston.

Mr. Kim is a first-rate artist of tremendous potential. In addition to having a magnificent voice, he is a superb musician and an excellent actor. He is well on his way to a very important career.
