The young Mexican mezzo-soprano Grace Echauri was born in Guadalajara and at a very early age, she made her operatic debut there as Maddalena in Rigoletto with the Guadalajara Opera. She has appeared at the Palacio de Bellas Artes as Isabella in L’Italiana in Algeri, Azucena in Il Trovatore, La Gran Duqesa in Alicia, and Soledad in La Mulata de Cordoba.

She also participated in a gala operatic concert at the Bellas Artes performing arias and ensembles with Placido Domingo. Ms. Echauri has sung with all the major opera companies in Mexico, and many companies in the United States and Thailand. She has apppeared in such roles as Dinah in Trouble in Tahiti, Rosina in Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Luisa Fernanda, Carmen, Amneris in Aida, Angelina in La Cenerentola, Nicklausse in Les Contes d’Hoffmann, and Suzuki in Madama Butterfly, under the direction of internationally renowned conductors as Marco Armiliato, Enrique Patrón de Rueda, Anton Coppola, Eduardo Diazmuñoz, Somtow Sucharitkul, Alfredo Silipigni, and Giampaolo Bracali.

Ms. Echauri received the prestigious MOZART AWARD by the Austrian Embassy in Mexico in recognition of her excellent musicianship, which she especially demonstrated in her six CDs of contemporary operatic and symphonic music.
In France, one of those CDs, the opera Ildegonda by Melesio Morales received the MICHEL GARCIN “Orphée dór Award in 1996 as “The record of the year”. In 1999 she was the winner of the International Vincenzo Bellini Vocal Competition in Italy.

Her repertoire also includes many symphonic works, such as the Mahler Symphony No. 2 and Symphony No. 8, and Das Klagende Lied, Verdi Requiem, Mozart Coronation Mass and Requiem, Handel’s Messiah, Bach Mass in B minor and Christmas Oratorio, Beethoven Symphony No. 9, De Falla El Amor Brujo, among others. She has sung with the most important symphony orchestras in Mexico, as well as the Palermo Sinfonica, the Lehman College Symphony Orchestra and the Bangkok Symphony Orchestra.

In April 2005, Ms. Echauri sang Amneris in Aida with the Bangkok Opera, where she will return in September 2005 for the world premiere of Mae Naak by Somtow Sucharitkul. In October 2005, she will sing the Verdi Requiem under the direction of Placido Domingo in Mexico City and in November 2005, Amneris in Aida with Boheme Opera New Jersey. Next season her engagements will include Nicklausse in Les Contes d’Hoffmann starring Ramón Vargas at the Bellas Artes.

In addition to the above-mentioned Ildegonda, her recordings include the world premiere of the opera Madre Juana by Federico Ibarra, the dramatic oratorio Brindis por un Milenio, written especially for Ms. Echauri by Mr. Ibarra, the Mahler Symphony No. 8 with the Xalapa Symphony Orchestra recorded live at the Bellas Artes, an album of Sacred and Christmas music, and an album of Arias and Duets.
